It’s Never Too Late!
Meet Donna Wasik who began working out only two years ago.
Donna told us she is 67.75 years old but after an awesome workout she feels like she is 37!
Donna didn’t begin working out until the summer of 2017 when her former CrossFit box Aspire offered a 6 week challenge class for friends & family who had never tried CrossFit. Her daughter Liz had trained there for years and nagged her until she signed up. She says she has never been athletic in any way but figured she could commit to 3 times a week. She figured there was NO way the coach was going to get her to do things like burpees, push-ups, or weight-lifting! However, when she walked into the first class something made her say “I’m doing this for me!” and making a decision to be all in! Two weeks later Donna did deadlifts and was hooked! She said she had more energy than ever and began asking her daughter for more information about this “new-found activity” after every workout. Donna realized that she was happier than she had been in a long time and felt truly supported by everyone in the gym. Every fist bump, PR, and sweat angel was an affirmation that she was doing the right thing.
We asked Donna what she likes about True Fitness
- The sense of Community. Everyone’s journey to fitness is different and I really appreciate how hard it is for many of the True Fitness athletes (yup! We are all athletes) to make fitness a priority. Everyone juggles jobs, family, commitment, school, but we are all in this together & strive to lift each other up. (sometimes literally).
- The attention to detail is reflected in the decor, the amenities, and the feeling of being welcomed as soon as you walk in the door. I respect the coaches and class instructors who have a herculean task developing innovative and challenging programming for a diverse group of athletes. The variety of disciplines & frequency of classes is amazing.
- The Purpose. True Fitness is committed to supporting JDRF & the local community. As a social worker at CHOP for the past 20 years, I know the impact pediatric chronic illness has on the entire family and the owner’s generosity resonated with me. How wonderful to know that a portion of our membership fees are supporting pediatric medical research and that hope is on the horizon.
Donna works out 3-4 times a week ( often in Torch) and if a workout has deadlifts or sled pulls it’s a good day! She describes the joy of realizing that you are never too old or too fat or never too “Anything” to begin a wellness journey. She says she is now a happier, healthier, stronger, and more courageous woman. Donna told us she is grateful to have found the True Fitness community: coaches who “keep it real”, daughters who invite you to share their passion, and the many people who give support, encouragement, and fist bumps along the way.
In conclusion… we are thrilled to have Donna as part of our True Fitness Community. She is an inspiration and example to all, and proof that there is never a reason not to try!
